AIR music concert with a purpose

Imphal, March 29 2012: Come March 31, All India Radio (AIR), Imphal is all set to provide an evening of musical treat to the people of the state with a message for peace, unity and communal harmony.

To be organized under the Prime Minister's North East Special Package at Bhagyachandra Open Air Theatre (BOAT), Palace Compound here, and keeping in mind the theme of the music concert, the event would feature mainly young and popular male and female singers belonging to different communities like Nongmaithem Solendro, Oinam Swamikumar, Huidrom Nowboy, Hamom Sadananda, Kongkham Birkumar, Khun Jiban, Aso Shinglai, Kakai Kipgen, Thongam Luxmi, Nepram Sunita, RK Nandeshori, GA Hemolata, Takhellambam Mandakini and Sarita Gazmeer.

Talking to Huiyen Lanpao in this connection, Programme Executive, AIR Imphal M Biramani Singh explained that AIR has thought of organizing the music concert primarily as part of its reaching out effort to the people and at the same time to promote modern songs and motivate young singers.

"With exception to Laishram Birendrakumar Singh and S Tijendra, who have been specially requested for the event, all the artistes who would be performing in the music concert are young singers and they have been selected on the basis of their popularity among the radio listeners.

All these young singers are AIR-approved and have been in the 'Top-10' at one time or the other and the songs they going to present would be lyrics of the AIR-approved lyricists", Biramani informed, adding that entry to the concert would be free and there would no ticket system.

It is said that just in the case of Shumang Leela Festival hosted by AIR Imphal at Iboyaima Shumang Leela Shanglen earlier this year, arrangements would also be made for recording the performances of the artistes live on stage for deferred broadcast in the interest of the radio listeners who could not make it to the music concert.

The concert was scheduled to start sharp at 5 pm.

However, in due consideration of the general strike being called on March 31 from 5 am to 5 pm, there may be slightly delayed in commence of the music concert.
