SUK organises one day discussion prog

Students' Union of Kangleipak (SUK) organised a one day discussion on the condition and situation of school boardings and hostels in the State, at Iboyaima Shumang Leela Shanglen, Palace Compound today.
A total of 8 resolutions were adopted during the programme, two of which included demanding the Government/authorities concerned to monitor whether the boardings and hostels are maintaining the minimum standards as mentioned in the guidelines under National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) and JJ Act as well as a demand for the Government to introduce a child friendly regulatory guideline within a month's period.
Other resolutions demanded the Government and the authorities concerned to see whether the boardings and hostels have the required number of staff, checking the safety standards of the food supplied in the said institutions.
It was also resolved to ensure that all the hostels and boardings are registered with the Education Department, that the said establishments are checked and inspected at regular intervals by the DCs concerned and the authorities, and for the Education Department to make it mandatory for the establishments to have trained counsellors for providing necessary counselling to the students.
Editors' Guild Manipur (EGM) advisor Ahongshangbam Mobi acted as the moderator of today's programme in which social scientist Dr Dhanabir Laishram, Commission for Protection of Child Rights (MCPCR) Member Keisham Pradipkumar as well as numerous imminent persons spoke on various important topics.
