Imphal, July 28 2014 :
The proposed 'all political party meeting' to discuss the issue of introduction of Inner Line Permit (ILP) in Manipur will be a futile attempt, Manipur BJP president Th Chaoba has claimed on Monday.
Chaoba said this on the sideline of welcoming 11 new members including two former ministers who joined the state BJP during a simple function at party office here at Nityaipat.
He said BJP Manipur Pradesh is committed to implementing ILP in the state and suggested that Manipur Government should have serious discussion with all the civil society organisations on the issue instead of holding All Party Political Meeting, which he said a useless move.
The log jam over introduction of ILP is a matter of concern, so now the Government should not act unconscientiously, Chaoba warned.
He cited that 'all political party meetings' held with regard to Indo-Myanmar Border Fencing issue recently did not bear fruit since such meetings have not been able to help in solving the problem till date.
The state Government is not revealing its clear-cut stance on ILP issue and at the same time it is not showing willingness to take up the matter with the Centre, the former MP accused.
Earlier, the state Government took resolution twice on ILP, but they were only Private Member Resolutions, Chaoba mentioned and emphasized the importance of taking Cabinet decision which should be passed in the House and then put it before the Central Government.
Referring to appointment of members of State Human Rights Commission, the BJP leader ridiculed the Government for fixing the salary of each member of the commission at Rs 17,000 which is less than the amount of salary gets by a JCB driver.
Among the 11 prominent political persons who were inducted into the state BJP were former ministers, A Biren Singh of Jiribam constituency in Imphal East and former minister from Bishnupur constituency in Bishnupur and former Deputy Speaker from Henglep constituency in Churachandpur district, TT Haokip.
