AR remembers 'Battle of Shangshak'

Imphal, March 27 2021:
To pay homage to the war heroes of World War II who made the supreme sacrifice fighting the invading Japanese forces, Shangshak Battalion of Headquarters 10 Sector Assam Rifles under the aegis of Headquarters IGAR (South) conducted a wreath laying ceremony at the War Memorial at Shangshak on March 26.The Battle of Shangshak was a major battle of the Imphal Campaign and it epitomizes the robust civil-military cooperation.
Besides the Army personnel who laid down their lives, numerous civilians also participated in the battle whose names are engraved on the War Memorial, said a statement issued by PRO Assam Rifles.
The ceremony was attended by Assam Rifles dignitaries, YA Shishak, N A Shishak, Headman of Shangshak, Winner Reising, Village Secretary of Shangshak, Chinaopen, Youth President of Shangshak, Meenakin, President Woman Association, Shangshak and other village authorities.
The event was organised to remember the history which gave shape to the fall of Japanese, added the statement.
After the wreath-laying ceremony, gifts were presented to villagers.
