Imphal, August 26 2015:
Railway Affected Land Owners' Welfare Committee (RALOWC) has demanded the Government that exact compensation should be paid to the people to be affected by the Railway Project so that they can make meaningful resettlement.
The compensation should be valuable enough for the affected residents while shifting to proper places, RALOWC president Konthoujam Kumar Singh told reporters at Manipur Press Club on Wednesday.
He said the committee was set up to ensure resettlement of all the people of Konthoujam, Bombdiyar, Malom, Tuliyaima, Yurembam, Lansonbi (Sagoltongba), Changagei, Salam, Luken Tairenpokpi, Kangdabi, Haorang Keirel and Kiyam and several others in Imphal West to be affected by Railway Project.
The committee will not allow the Government to fix the land compensation at freewill and that representatives of the committee should be consulted in the land acquisition process to make it proportionate, Kumar demanded.
He said the price of land is now very high and hence the Government should act in line with the suggestion and proposals of the committee representing the concerned residents while fixing the land values.
Kumar said memorandums will be submitted to the Prime Minister, Railway Minister, MPs, Union Ministers and Revenue Minister to seek their intervention in order that the locals of these areas get suitable compensation for resettlement.
