IHRA condemns arrest of its secretary

Imphal, April 25 2021:
International Human Rights Association (IHRA) condemned the arrest of its secretary Thangkhanlen Haokip, resident of Kholep Village by Manipur Police today.
IHRA demanded explanation from the Home Department why the arrest was made and on what ground in a statement issued today.
The statement added that some people had also been arrested yesterday for exercising freedom of in social media platform.
IHRA urged the Government to release the arrested individuals as the Supreme Court has nullified Section 66A of the Information Technology Act (IT Act) since it violated Article 19(I)(A) of the Constitution of India and uphold that no one shall be arrested for posting any post on social media platforms like Facebook, Twitter, Whatsapp etc.
IHRA also added in the statement that they will start collecting record of victims who have been arrested because of post they made on social media platforms and submit it to the Supreme Court.
Freedom of Expression is also protected by Article 19 of Universal Declaration of Human Rights which is guaranteed to everyone without any distinction of caste, creed, sex, comunity or religion, added the statement issued by IHRA.
