The Women Action for Development (WAD) will observe the International Fortnight Observation protesting violence against women from November 25 till December 12 .
Addressing a press conference at the Manipur Press Club, WAD secretary Sobita Mangsatabam said that even though the fortnight observation is usually celebrated from November 25 till December 10, the observation will be extended till December 12 the day which the state observes as Nupi Lal Day.
December 12 is annually observed as Nupi Lal Day in the state to commemorate the two historic 'Women's War' or movements in the state in 1912 and 1939.WAD will be extending the usual 15 days of observation to 17 days till December 12 .
The WAD has been observing the International Fortnight Observation protesting the violence against women since 2003 without any break.
This year there will be a slight difference in the observance as WAD is planning to organize street corner meetings, workshops, etc.
at various places in the state.
All programmes will be related with the theme of this year "Structure of Violence-Defining the Intersection of Militarism and Violence against Women", he said.
