Imphal, November 23 2012:
The Joint Action Committee seeking safe release of Irungbam Irabanta on Friday met with Deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam but resulted in a fresh stalemate between the two sides, official sources said.
At the meeting held at the office chamber of Gaikhangam in Old Secretariat at 4 pm, the Deputy CM appealed the JAC side to withdraw the indefinite economic blockade imposed along Imphal-Ukhrul road but the JAC flatly declined the appeal accusing the state Government of not taking any step to secure the release of Irabanta, the sources said.
The JAC formed in connection with the disappearance of Irabanta allegedly abducted by NSCN-IM on May 27 this year has enforced an indefinite economic blockade along Imphal-Ukhrul road since October 12 demanding the state Government to secure his release.
The JAC had also submitted several representations regarding the issue time and again to the state Chief Minister and the state Home Minister as well.
Being an outfit under ceasefire with the Central Government the NSCN-IM should not indulge in such kidnapping case, the JAC convenor Radhamani had said, warning that any eventual untoward incident should be owned up by both the state Government and NSCN-IM.
Irabanta, a sand supplier for Maphou Dam construction, was allegedly kidnapped by the NSCN-IM on May 27 last.
Since then his whereabouts is unknown till today.
He is a resident of Nongdam Maning Leikai in Imphal East.
