Kangpokpi, January 22 2022:
The total bandh called along the National Highway 2 since 6 am of Saturday has been called off with effect from 5:30 pm Saturday.
The bandh was called in protest against the killing of a young man from Keithelmanbi Military Colony in a hit and run case that took place on January 19 night.
Earlier before the announcement of the total bandh, a complete ban on the movement of all commercial trucks and tankers was imposed since January 21 in connection with the case.
During the bandh period, mobs and volunteers were seen blocking the highway at Keithelmanbi.
They were seen strictly checking the documents of exempted vehicles such as medical and airport bound vehicles and allowed passage only to those bearing genuine documents while the rest were sent back.
Some vehicles moving towards Dimapur's side under security escort were damaged by the volunteers at Keithelmanbi.
Meanwhile, representatives of Kangpokpi civil bodies under the aegis of KSO Sadar Hills including the deceased family, Keithelmanbi Village Authority and Keithelmanbi Youth Association with the representatives of the government and other stakeholders held another round of meeting at the office chamber of DGP Manipur on Saturday afternoon.
According to KSO Sadar Hills, the government representatives assured to thoroughly investigate and trace the culprit.
Considering the assurance, they have decided to call off the total bandh keeping faith on the government, informed KSO Sadar Hills general secretary Thangtinlen Haokip after the meeting.
He, however, cautioned that in case the government fails to act according to their assurance, they will launch more intense forms of agitations.
Thangtinlen Haokip further said that after the assurance they have also decided to claim the body of Paokhoseh Chongloi, who was killed in the hit and run case of January 19 .
