Imphal, November 21 2011:
Opposing any move of disturbing the traditional Kuki chieftainship, Kuki Inpi, Songpijang, Haflong, NC Hills (Assam) has pressed for maintaining status quo in the administrative of the Kuki villages.
In a memorandum submitted to the Prime Minister of India, the Inpi observed that it has been learnt from reliable sources that the winter session of the Parliament is going to give its nod to introduction of Panchayati rule in all the villages of the country.
If the move is true and the government of India is going to introduce the Bill, then Kuki Inpi would like to inform the august House that Kuki people everywhere have a democratically elected administration right from the village, district, state and the national level.
This is in agreement to the ruling of democratic government of India.
Signed by its Kumpi A Lenthang, the memorandum contended that what the government of India has proposed to offer to the NSCN (IM) as 'Christmas gift, the same and even more are already in practice in Kuki villages worldwide since time immemorial.
The traditional rights of the Kuki people could not be compromised and any move to destroy "our traditional government' would be opposed tooth and nail at any cost.
