Imphal, July 21 2024:
Coordinating Committee on Manipur Integrity (COCOMI) spokesperson Khuraijam Athouba on July 6 made a complaint to Birmingham Central police station, UK against University of Birmingham, UK Computer Science professor Uday S Reddy on the latter's involvement in a transnational ethnic conflict which has been on going in the volatile border region of India, Myanmar, and Bangladesh, particularly in the state of Manipur since May 3, 2023 .
In the complaint, Athouba pointed out that many fake account holders are spreading false and misleading information on various social media platforms and media outlets to mislead the public regarding the conflict.
Contending that Prof Uday Reddy is one of the members of a discreet group of experts involved in the disinformation campaign, he claimed that the group has been consistently involved in activities supporting the armed Chin-Kuki narco-terrorist groups, which are at the forefront of the on-going violence in Manipur.
An FIR has been lodged against the professor in the state by the local police authority, he informed, while cautioning that Prof Uday Reddy may have been hired or engaged by their supporter group using narco-terror fund, paying him to work for them in several critical areas.
Athouba also cited use of super editor status in Wikipedia to manipulate and rewrite false information related to the violence in Manipur on the Wikipedia platform.
Urging to keep a close eye on Prof Reddy's activities by monitoring his social media accounts, Athouba observed that Prof Reddy appears to hold multiple social media accounts with different fake names, such as Kautilya33, Kautilya3, etc., on X platform, and added that his X account has been blocked for the past few weeks by the Meta company.
He also urged for checking the professor's bank accounts for any unusual transfers of narco-terror funds.
While stating that the professor's activities have created negative impression of the University of Birmingham due to the presence, he stressed the need for proper investigation and appropriate action.
