Class XII exam begins at 111 centres

The Higher Secondary (Class XII) Examination-2024 conducted by Council of Higher Secondary Education, Manipur (CoHSEM) commenced Wednesday at 111 centres across the state.
A total of 31,351 candidates are appearing the examination this year, which is 5000 less than the previous year, 2023.There were apprehension that the raging violence would cause disturbance to the exam but 31,351 students of 236 schools across the state are sitting for the examination.
The CoHSEM initially planned conduct of the examination at 114 centres but three, one each in Kakching, Imphal East and Chakpikarong in Chandel district, were removed from the list of examination centres owing to the ongoing violence.
Of the total candidates appearing the exam, 22,631 are science stream candidates, 8,100 arts and 620 are commerce stream candidates.
Of the 111 examination centres, 36 are in 10 hill districts and the remaining 75 centres in six valley districts.
A total of 70 police flying squad teams are inspecting the examination with 40 of them specifically entrusted to ensure smooth conduct of the examination.
The exam will end on March 23 .
Mention may be made that a total of 36,000 candidates appeared class XII examination in 2023 at 120 examination centres.
On the other hand, class XI examination conducted by CoHSEM commenced on February 20 with total of 29,832 candidates.
Sources informed that 222 candidates appeared the Class XII examination in Moreh.
A total of 245 students including 146 of Moreh college, 52 of Moreh higher secondary school and 52 from some schools of Pallel were enrolled for the examination but 23 students missed the examination on the first day.
All the candidates of the border town are appearing the examination at only Moreh college centre.
ZEO Tengnoupal Shokholun Baite personally inspected the examination.
Our Jiribam correspondent also reported that the Class XII examination commenced peacefully at two examination centres in Jiribam district.
A total of 209 candidates of science, arts and commerce streams are appearing the examination at Jiribam higher secondary school with 64 candidates accommodated at Borobekra higher secondary school.
