Imphal, September 20 2021:
United Progressive Association (UPA), Andro Kendra secretary Th Surjit Singh has said that the unfortunate election related incident that occurred on Saturday night at Yairipok Yambem under Andro assembly constituency was a result of betrayal of local people's decision and trust by former minister/MLA of Andro Thounaojam Shyamkumar.
Addressing media persons on Monday at UPA office, Th Surjit said that election related activities including feasting at Yambem area were banned by local club recently after taking a collective decision but former minister Thounaojam Shy-amkumar forcibly organised a feast programme suddenly at about 4pm on Sunday.
Shyamkumar's irresponsible act compelled the local people to converge spontaneously on the Yambem road and raise 'Go Back Shyamkumar' slogan.
Following the incident, a large team of police led by Imphal East SP came to Yambem on Monday morning and picked up 24 people suspected to be involved in the slogan raising demonstration.
However, OC of Andro police station released six of them presuming them to be Shyamkumar's workers while the rest were sent to lockup considering them to be political activist worker Lourembam Sanjoy's workers.
When Sanjoy intimated the entire truth about the incident to the chief minister, all the remaining 18 arrested innocent locals were released without any condition, Surjit said and thanked CM N Biren Singh for his intervention.
Meanwhile, UPA Andro Kendra organised a public meet at the residence of Lourembam Sanjoy on Sunday evening wherein Sanjoy, on behalf of Andro people, thanked CM Biren Singh for releasing his workers without any condition.
