Imphal, April 20 2022:
All Tribal Students' Union Manipur (ATSUM) has urged Manipur University vice chancellor Prof N Lokendra Singh to restore Non-NET University Fellowship for research scholars of MU working under college teachers affiliated to the varsity.
In a letter sent to MU VC on Wednesday, ATSUM education secretary Kaikho Hopeson Mao pointed out that the scholars pursuing MPhil/PhD in any central university or following the norms of UGC or the university rules are eligible to receive the Non-NET University Fellowship if not getting any from any other sources, once they register from their respective university, but it is shocking that some scholars of MU working under college teachers are debarred from availing the fellowship.
As per grievances received from tribal scholar of MU only those who got departmental guideship are eligible to avail the Non-NET University Fellowship from the varsity despite same process of getting enrolled into PhD courses.
This action can hurt academic atmosphere of the university and may lead to feeling of enmity among the scholars, it noted.
ATSUM continued that it is aware that MU scholars who are under the guideship of college teacher for the year 2017 are still availing the university fellowship.
If 2017 batch can avail the said scholarship then why are the scholars admitted in 2019 are being curbed of this fellowship, it questioned.
It is pertinent to mention that recently Mizoram University started practicing college guideship for scholars of the varsity and there is no categorisation or discrimination based on guideship and any scholars who have done final registration in the university are deemed eligible for Non-NET University Fellowship, it conveyed.
ATSUM further appealed to the authority concerned of MU to look into the matter in the interest of all scholars irrespective of the guideship or supervisor allotted so that they can avail themselves of the university fellowship at par with the rest of scholars without any further delay.
