CM calls for peaceful co-existence, mutual understanding

Chief minister N Biren expressed the need for all indigenous communities in the state to live together peacefully, maintaining mutual understanding.
He emphasised that the communities should remember how the forefathers safeguarded the motherland together from external forces.
The CM was speaking at the inaugural function of the Diamond Jubilee cum 8th Biennial Sports Meet, 2025 of the All Maring Sports Association (AMSA) held at the AMSA Sports Complex, Laiching Kangshang village, Machi sub-division in Tengnoupal district on Monday.
The event was organised under the theme "Legacy of Yesterday, Champion of Tomorrow".
Biren stated that different indigenous communities had been living together, safeguarding the land since time immemorial.

He recalled that the poison put on the tip of the Arambai weapon, used while driving out the Burmese (Awa) during the Seven Years Devastation Period, was provided by the Maring community.
He added that all such stories could be heard in folktales.
He said that many youths of Manipur, frustrated due to unemployment, were being attracted to drugs.
As such, the War on Drugs Campaign was started to save the youths, who are the foundations of future generations.
He appreciated the people of Laiching Kangshang village for growing vegetables while refraining from poppy cultivation.
Referring to a memorandum submitted to him at the event, the CM announced plans to develop a sports complex with an indoor gym at the function venue, with an estimated cost of around Rs 2.5 crore.
He added that the fund would be allocated in the next budget.
He also informed that the government would consider opening a branch of the employment exchange office at Machi sub-division.
Biren also assured that the approach road to Laiching Kangshang village from Pallel would be blacktopped.
He further informed that a women's market would be constructed in the village.
He also assured to look into the demand for setting up a power sub-station and opening a Primary Health Sub-Centre.
Speaking on the current unprecedented crisis, the CM maintained that the state government is not against any community.
The government is concerned about illegal immigrants and the mushrooming of many unrecognised villages in border areas.
He stressed the need for major communities to support minorities in their living for the overall development of the state.
He appealed to the public to work together in restoring peace and normalcy and to take the state towards a faster pace of development.
Water resources minister Awangbow Newmai, while delivering his speech, praised the courage and bravery of the Maring community.
He also mentioned the interest shown by the youth of Maring community in games and sports and expressed the need to groom talented youths to make them successful sportsmen.
The minister appreciated the CM's initiative to bring governance to the doorstep through the Go to Hills and Go to Village missions.
He also spoke on the significance of holding Meeyamgi Numit, an initiative of CM Biren, to address the grievances of the public.
The state had witnessed development in various sectors including health, education, and other infrastructure development, among others, he said and'sought cooperation of the public in the government's effort to restore peace.
The CM also released a diamond jubilee souvenir of All Maring Sports Association (AMSA) and unveiled a monolith at the premises of the AMSA Sports Complex.
Works minister Govindas Konthoujam, PHE minister L Sushindro Meitei, Kakching MLA Mayanglambam Rameshwar, DC and SP of Tengnoupal district, senior government officials, village chiefs, and the people of Laiching Kangshang village also attended the programme, among others.
