Chief Minister N Biren Singh attended the inauguration programme of the Good Governance Week, organised by the Department of Administrative Reforms Division, at Cabinet Hall of CM Secretariat, here, on Thursday.
The nationwide campaign "Prashasan Goan Ki Ore" under Good Governance Week will be held from December 19 to 24.Speaking on the occasion, CM Biren pointed out that the Good Governance Day is celebrated to commemorate the birth anniversary of former Prime Minister late Atal Bihari Vajpayee on December 25, for his statesmanship and visionary leadership.
He recalled that on being sworn in as the chief minister of Manipur in March 2017, the idea to make Manipur an inclusive state with uniform developments in both hills and valley came to his mind at the first instance.
As such, the government introduced 'Go to Hills' mission to bridge the developmental gaps across the state.
After realising the ground reality of far-flung areas through the 'Go to Hills' mission, the 'Go to Village' mission was launched to take governance at the door steps of the people, he added.
The chief minister further stated that good governance is governance for the people and to deliver services to the people with transparency and accountability.
People will only have trust in the government, when the services are delivered as promised, he stressed.
The CM then said that the situation in the state is improving, and commended the deputy commissioners especially those posted in the hill districts for discharging their duties sincerely during this difficult time.
He also mentioned that the bureaucrats are the backbone to deliver good governance for the people and appealed to the officers performing duties in the hill districts, not to compromise in key issues no matter how intense the pressure is and work in larger interest of the nation.
The government should entertain the grievances of the public and work hard to redress the same to gain confidence and trust of the public, he asserted.
Speaking on the various welfare schemes initiated by the government for the people, Biren elaborated on schemes like the Chief Minister Gi Hakshelgi Tengbang, Chief Minister Health for All, Widows Pension Scheme, CM Da Haisi, etc.
As a part of the programme, laptops were distributed to newly appointed civil service officers.
A presentation on Good Governance Week was made by Administrative Reforms Division joint secretary A Shivadas Sharma.
The function was attended by the cabinet ministers, MLAs, chief secretary, administrative secretaries and other officials of the state government among others.
