Imphal, December 19 2021:
Former union minister and former president of BJP Manipur Pradesh Thounaojam Chaoba has said that the BJP gave the post of deputy chief minister to NPP but the minister who is actually wielding the power of a deputy CM is works minister Th Biswajit and not Yumnam Joykumar.
Attending the launch of 'My family BJP's family' campaign for intending candidate in Khundrakpam assembly constituency Irom Mangiton held at the latter's Waiton residence on Sunday, Chaoba said that the post of deputy chief minister was allotted to the NPP for namesake only to uphold the principle of a coalition government.
The second in command of the present government is minister Biswajit.
NPP is in no position to win 10 seats in the 2022 state assembly election.
Once BJP wins 40 plus seats, the NPP will start lobbying for its share in the government and they will be left with no choice but to support the BJP government by holding chairman of some boards or committees, he said.
The veteran politicians also contended that the Congress too will not be able to stand as a strong opposition.
INC was formerly known as Indian National Congress but it now stands for T Need Corruption/Contract work'.
No member of the opposition will be able to raise voices against the government if they are provided some contract works, he remarked.
Chaoba further said that Congress party will not be able to win a single seat in Imphal East, Imphal West and Bishnupur districts.
Intending candidate Mangiton called for public support in order to bring development in Khundrakpam assembly constituency.
Khadi and Village Industry vice-chairman Y Nilamani, BJP Mahila Morcha former president T Pramodini and BJP leader N Jibanmala were also present at the event.
