Trials begin in alleged fake encounter

Imphal, December 19 2018: The trial of two alleged fake encounter/extra judicial killing cases began today at Special Court Imphal West and partly heard the submission of one prosecution witness each of two different cases.

The trial began after a charge was framed by the special court on November 23 against Inspector S Ibotombi of Ningthembam Mayai Leikai Jiribam and Rifleman Ajay Prakash of 1 st Manipur Rifles Babupara in connection with alleged fake encounter/ extra judicial killing of Laisham Lincoln @ Nicolson s/o Modhu of Kakwa Naorem Leikai who was killed at Naoremthong Khullem Leikai on June 28, 2011.Another charge was framed by against Sub Inspector Ksh Uttam of Wangkhem Mayum Leikai, Head Constable Kh Sushil Kumar of Langthabal Mantrikhong Makha Leikai, Head Constable Laishram Dinachandra of Lanthabal Lep Makha Leikai, and Rifleman Yumnam Santosh of Nilakuthi Awang Leikai in connection with alleged fake encounter/ extrajudicial killing of Laishram Ranbir s/o L Ibobi of Uchiwa Awang Leikai at Naran Konjin along Chandranadi road under Wangoi PS.

Court also fixed January 14 for further hearing of the prosecution witnesses of two different cases.
