Disqualify prayer

Imphal, December 19 2017: Two voters from 29-Kumbi Assembly Constituency have filed a prayer to the Speaker, Manipur Legislative Assembly, for initiating disqualification proceedings against the sitting MLA of the Constituency, Sanasam Bira Singh .

According to the prayer, MLA, S Bira Singh, contested the 11 Assembly General election from the Indian National Congress ticket.

After the 11th Manipur Legislative Assembly election was conducted , S Bira Singh was declared elected as a Member of the Manipur Legislative Assembly on March 11 .

The prayer mentioned that after taking the oath/ affirmation of being a Member of the Manipur Legislative Assembly as a member of the Indian National Congress, S Bira Singh, along with three other MLAs of the party, joined BJP on April 29 .

The prayer stated that as the MLA has intentionally and deliberately abandoned the Indian National Congress after winning the election through the party's ticket and then joined BJP, he is no longer enjoying the mandate of the people who supported him on the basis of the election manifesto of the INC and prayed for taking up appropriate disqualification procee- dings against S Bira Singh.
