SACA, officials, media persons inspect Chandel-Vomku Road

Team of Sulam Area Chiefs' Association (SACA), Government officials and media persons on Wednesday visited the spots affected by the recent landslides along Chandel-Vomku Road.
SACA Chairman TS Samuel said constricting a bypass road will be the only measure that can allay fears of being totally cutoff by thousands of villagers in Sulam area as the road had been the lifeline earlier before the July 31 landslide.
Samuel further said efforts have been made to construct a motorable road connecting Sulam area with the rest of State.
Sustainable livelihood has been badly affected as the villagers could not transport even essential commodities, he said.
An alternative road connecting Sulam area is Tengnoupal to New Samtal road.
However, there has been major damage caused to the road near Angbrasu Village, he added.
Meanwhile, Assistant Engineer of PWD WL Robertson Anal said there have been several spots affected by landslides along Chandel to Vomku and Tengnoupal to New samtal Road.
The landslide has also caused a gorge measuring 120m long and 35m deep along Chandel to Vomku road.
This had totally cut off the villagers of Sulam area and Khenjoy Block and even relief materials could not be sent to the affected areas.
Robertson said alternative route is required and that two local contractors - Lovingson and Ngamdar have been engaged in the construction of the new road.
The team that visited the landslide areas included MDCs of 13-Vomku Ts Kanlun and 11-Pantha Sh Manglem Monsang, AE of PWD Chandel Division WL Robertson Anal, SO of PWD Romen Aimol, Contractors including Hl Lovingson, Rd.
Ngamdar and village Chiefs.
