Imphal, December 18 2024:
Naga People's Organisation (NPO), Senapati and United Mao Conference (UMC) have vehemently condemned certain Kuki civil society organisations repeatedly issuing warnings and attempting to obstruct the chief minister and government officials from visiting Naga villages or attending Naga festivals in Senapati district.
Reminded the Kuki community and its leaders that Nagas are a neutral party in the on-going conflict, NPO said: "Our efforts have been consistently directed towards fostering peace and harmony in the region.
However, it has come to our notice that Kuki leaders have frequently issued unwarranted warnings against the chief minister's participation in Naga cultural and community events".
Pointing out that the chief minister, as the leader of the state, represents all communities, including the Naga community, an NPO statement expressed that attempts by Kuki leaders to bar the chief minister from attending Naga festivals or visiting Naga villages are uncalled for, and overstepping their authority.
The NPO urged all parties to respect the neutrality of the Naga community and to work towards genuine peace and understanding in Manipur.
United Mao Conference (UMC) also criticised the recent press release issued by Kuki-Zo Council (KZC) regarding the visit of chief minister N Biren for the Robvena Ni cultural celebration at Senapati.
The UMC categorically stated that the Kuki-Zo Council has no jurisdiction or authority to interfere in the cultural or administrative affairs of the Mao people and added that Robvena Ni is a cultural celebration deeply rooted in their traditions.
"Any attempts to dictate or disrupt the free movement of individuals, including dignitaries, to their lands will not be tolerated," it cautioned.
Conveying that Mao people are peace-loving and have always respected the rights and sentiments of other communities, the release cautioned that interference in their affairs, especially from the Kuki-Zo Council, will lead to severe repercussions against those responsible for such provocations.
"The Mao community does not seek conflict, but we will firmly defend our rights, traditions, and territory if challenged," it said, advising the Kuki-Zo Council to refrain from meddling in matters of the Mao community and to focus on fostering peace and coexistence.
"Any attempts to incite tension in our land will be met with strong and resolute measures in the interest of maintaining harmony and order," UMC cautioned.
The Mao Conference further called upon all stakeholders to act with restraint and respect the boundaries of different communities to avoid unnecessary conflicts.
