Imphal, November 18 2023:
Assam Rifles personnel of Shaibol Company Operating Base (COB) in Tengnoupal district aided in the surrender of five KYKL cadres.
According to a statement of PRO-IGAR (S), all the five youths, originally seeking training as village volunteers in a Kakching relief camp, were deceived and handed over to KYKL cadres near the Indo-Myanmar border.
They were made to live in deplorable conditions and perform menial tasks at the insurgents' camp.
The adverse living conditions coupled with the looming threat of being trained across the border compelled them to take a decision to escape the camp on November 15.The parents of the five youths approached Assam Rifles at Thoubal and requested for help in rescuing their children.
The contact numbers and details of the five youths were provided to Assam Rifles battalion in Tengnoupal.
The likely location of the five youths was ascertained and the search parties were launched.
A rescue operation was undertaken in the night and after an extended search, the five youths were found and safely brought to COB Shaibol.
The surrendered cadres were then handed over to Manipur police in the presence of their parents in Pallel, the statement said, adding that Assam Rifles displayed an undeterred and unwavering commitment towards aiding misguided youth back to the mainstream in-spite of encountering an ambush attempt in the same area.
