Major General Ranjit Singh takes over as Inspector General Assam Rifles (East)

Major General GAV Reddy, SC VSM handed over the reins of Inspector General Assam Rifles (East) to Major General Ranjit Singh, VSM, today, who would be the sixth incumbent in Srikona Garrison, Silchar.
Assam Rifles (East) looks after Tripura, Mizoram, South Assam and west Manipur and is involved in multi ferrous roles like counter-insurgency operations in west Manipur, effective border management in Mizoram and civic action projects in the entire region.
Major General Ranjit Singh, VSM has vast operational experience in counter-insurgency operations and most difficult terrains across the country.
He commanded 7th Battalion the Madras Regiment in Tinsukia, Binaguri and 56 Mountain Brigade in Dras/Kargil - which was famous for the 1999 Kargil War.
He was awarded the prestigious Vishisht Seva Medal for his service as a Brigade Commander.
He has served earlier in Mokokchung, Tinsukia & Rangiya and has been handpicked for this prestigious appointment.
