Paddy Land Bill approved, to be tabled in Assembly

After thorough discussion on preventing the use of agricultural lands of the state for other purposes with enactment of an Act by the government, the State Cabinet on Friday approved the Draft Manipur Conservation of Paddy Land Bill, 2014 for introduction in the ongoing State Assembly session.
As stated by Minister M.Okendro, who is also the State Government spokesman, the government is deeply concerned with the continued utilization of agricultural land for other purposes leading to reduction in productivity.
The state government has decided to prevent such actions under a strict law, said Okendro, while adding that the Cabinet has passed the draft bill on Manipur Conservation of Paddy Land for introduction in the House.
The Cabinet has also approved to increase the amount of monthly pensions for journalists who retire before 60 years of age by amending the Manipur Working Journalists' Pension Rules, 1996 .
The pension amount of Rs.2000/- has been increased to Rs.4000/-, while the amount of family pension will be Rs.2000/-, the Government Spokesman informed, while saying that the government will provide an annual grant of Rs.2.0 lakhs from this financial year.
Further, the amount will be increased to Rs.5.0 lakhs after five years, that is, from 2019-20 .
It may be mentioned here that the Manipur Working Journalists Pension rules, 1996 was earlier amended in 2007 .
Taking the name of freedom fighter Haipou Jadonang, the Sub-station of Jiribam-Tupul Railway to be situated in Kombiron will be known as Haipou Jadonang Railway Sub-station.
The State Cabinet took the decision to name the sub-station, as the Kombiron village authority has long been pressing the demand, Okendro said.
Kombirei village, also known as Puiluan, is the birth place of Haipou Jadonang and it is inhabited by around 75,000 people.
The Cabinet meeting held at the conference hall of Chief Minister's secretariat under the chairmanship of Chief Minister O.Ibobi from 4 pm to 7.30 pm also decided to identify three sites for the proposed National Sports University and to intimate the same to the centre, Okendro added.
