Imphal, December 17 2024:
Accusing the state government of neglecting the welfare of the tribal by keeping the Tribal Research Institute (TRI) defunct for long, Tribal Youth Council, Manipur (TYCM) has warned of launching agitation if the government fails to make the institute fully functional by January 15.General secretary Rotnei Gonmei informed that a team of TYCM functionaries visited the institute on Tuesday and found only four staff members in attendance while the offices of the director, deputy director, and RO, as well as the library, museum and auditorium were found locked.
He noted that TRI is a crucial research institute for tribal, but has remained defunct since the crisis broke out on May 3 last year.
"Out of the 13 staff members, only four are attending the institute.
Besides, there are vacant posts in the institute, which the government has not taken any initiative to fillup," he rued.
According to Gonmei, the TYCM had brought up the matter with the TRI director and urged him to make the institute fully functional by January 15 .
"In case the authority fails to respond positively to the demand, TYCM will launch intense agitation after January 15 and the government should bear the responsibility for any unwanted consequences," he cautioned.
The TYCM functionaries also pasted a notice at the gate of the institute setting a deadline of January 15 for making the institute functional.
