Imphal, August 17 2021:
In protest against state government's alleged failure to translate into action understandings reached with employees' associations and organisations of different departments from time to time, government employees led by Manipur Government Services Federation and Manipur Secretariat Services Association have started cease work strike from Tuesday onwards.
Employees' associations have earlier vowed to support the cease work strike being initiated by the Federation and the Association.
Employees of major departments including secretariat, PWD, planning, agriculture, veterinary, education and health departments joined the cease work strike.
Regarding the strike, Manipur Government Services Federation secretary Purujit Lairikyengbam said that the state government had promised to implement recommendation of the 7th Pay Commission but many departments are yet to get the revised pay.
While teachers are not receiving the 7th Pay Scale, there is different pay structure for doctors.
Among the nurses, those working at JNIMS are getting the revised pay while those working at health institutions in districts are not getting the same pay, he said.
Dearness allowance and pensioners' dear-ness relief for Central government employees and other states have been increased to 28 percent from the month of July but employees of the state continue to get 7 percent for the past ten years.
In view of state's poor financial condition and COVID-19 pandemic, employees have been awaiting implementation of 7th Pay structure with patience and they did nothing even when bureaucrat officers forcibly took 7th Pay, he added.
According to Purujit, state government is yet to translate into action agreed points of MoU signed with the federation and hence the ongoing cease work strike will continue till government fulfils all the demands.
