CM sets March 2014 deadline for Dolaithabi project

Along with inspecting the long delayed Dolaithabi Barrage project, which is being constructed over Iril River at Dolaithabi under Imphal East district today, Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh has assured that the project would be completed before March 2014 .
The Dolaithabi project was first approved by the Planning Commission of India in 1992 at an estimated cost of Rs 18.86crores.The revised estimate of the project, which is being undertaken under the supervision of Irrigation and Flood Control Department (IFCD), Government of Manipur under the Accelerated Irrigation Benefit Programme (AIBP), stands at Rs 360.05 crores today.
The actual construction work of the project, however, is being taken up by National Building Construction Corporation (NBCP).
The project was included in the Prime Minister's Project in 2008 .
Chief Minister O Ibobi was accompanied by IFC Minister Ngamthang Haokip, Chief Engineer of the Department, Th Chandramani and other officials of the department during the inspection.
Speaking to mediapersons on the sideline of the inspection, Ibobi said that the state government is trying to complete the Dolaithabi Barrage before March 2014 .
As of now, more than 50% of the work has been completed.
Since the rainy season has passed away, all measures to accelerate the work progress would be taken up.
Extra labour would be supplied and the work will be executed round the clock.
The Chief Minister further said that the once commissioned, the project would be benefiting the people in a number of ways including irrigation facilities to more than 7545 hactres of land.
