Imphal, June 16 2021:
As Left parties launched protest against price rise of petrol across the country, Manipur units of CPI, CPI-M, RSP and AIFB protested by convening a meeting at Irawat Bhawan on Wednesday.
The left parties carried out the protest to demand the central government roll back prices of petroleum products, control price of essential commodities and drugs and wave excise duties and VAT by central and state governments.
The nationwide protest organised by left parties will continue till June 30.Like in other parts of the country, the Left parties of the state tried to launch protest demonstration near the Irawat Bhawan premises.
However, a team of Manipur police stopped the protest.
The left parties strongly condemned such actions of the state force.
Speaking during the protest meeting, CPI state secretary L Sotinkumar pointed out that hiking of fuel price for the 21st time drastically affected the people of the nation.
BJP government led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi is behind such price rise of petroleum products, he denounced while enquiring why India could not sell fuel at cheaper rates when poorer neighbouring countries could.
The main reason for such price hike is because the present government tried to help selected rich individuals earn huge profit, he contended.
