Imphal, April 16 2020: Wildfires have gutted swathes of greenery at Thoubal Khunou Ching and Luwangshangbam areas today.

The fire at Thoubal Khunou Ching at around 3 pm, suspected to have been started by unknown miscreants, turned more than one hectare of greenery into ashes.

Thoubal Forest staff rushed and put out the fire.

Meanwhile, the fire at Luwangshangbam area was detected by a team of Koirengei Beat Office in time.

They fought nearly an hour to extinguish the fire and in the process, Thompson Hawaibam, Head Forest Guard, fainted due to suffocation because of the smoke and particulate matters, said officials.

It may be noted that the number of wildfire incidents has been increasing by the day during COVID-19 inflicted lockdown.
