Students Wing of Joint Action Committee of Inner Line Permit system has imposed ban on a number of bakeries run by outsiders in Imphal West district for violating the safety and hygienic norms.
Taking to reporters at the Nongmeibung office of Joint Action Committee of Inner Line Permit system today, the students' wing convenor M.Angamba informed that the organization has banned the unhygienic bakeries until the Food Safety Officer of Manipur Government takes action on them.
The bakeries on which the ban has been imposed included Sona Bakery, Paiyal Bakery and Pakka Bakery at Thnangmeiband Polem Leikai; Sompa Bakery, Chaka Bakery, Ima Bakery, Balaji Bakery, Sangeeta Bakery, Sathi Bakery and Dev Bakery at Babupara.
.MAngamba asserted that during a drive conducted by the students' wing of the JACILPS, the bakeries run by outsiders have been found making eatables in a highly unhygienic environment.
During inspection of bakeries at Thangmeiband Polem Leikai and Babupara area, the student's wing detected preparation of eatables in a highly polluted confinement adjacent to toilets, and even the spoiled eggs were found to be used in making cakes, Angamba pointed out.
He said that the bakeries are found to have manipulated the dateline of packaging by printing earlier dates instead of the real ones, and added that most of the bakeries run by outsiders did not have licenses issued by the government.
Saying a number of government licensed bakeries are found violating the norms of hygiene, he said the concerned officials need to monitor them and urged the authority to implement the guidelines laid under Food Safety and Standard Act.
Pointing out that the organization has identified a number of outsiders without their identity cards, he also appealed to the government to look into the matter.
The drive undertaken by the organization will continue at various places of the state, he added.
