Shirley entrusted to aid NE natives in Thailand

Shirley Roy, a native of Manipur, has been reappointed as the Indian Embassy's representative in Thailand for Northeast India.
The reappointment underscores her ongoing commitment to supporting visitors and expatriates from the Northeastern region of India living in Thailand.
Shirley, who has lived in Thailand for seven years and is currently based in Phuket, has played a crucial role in fostering stronger ties between the two regions.
In her role as a representative, Roy has been a vital source of support for the Northeast Indian community in Thailand, providing assistance in various areas such as legal aid, emergency response, and cultural guidance.
"It's an honour to continue this journey of helping my people," Shirley stated, emphasising her passion for aiding those from her home region and build-ing a deeper connection between Northeast India and Thailand.
Shirley Roy is also co-founder and the general secretary of the North East Indian Society (NEIS), an organisation that has created a significant support network for Northeast Indians residing in Thailand.
Under her leadership, NEIS has organised several community events and outreach programmes.
One of her most recent initiatives was an educational event in Bangkok, attended by over 100 people, including prominent figures from the Thai Ministry of Education.
During the event, she spoke about educational opportunities for women from Northeast India and discussed the role of artificial intelligence in enhancing the efficiency of teaching practices.
Her leadership has been particularly evident during times of crisis.
She had helped secure emergency passports for individuals stranded in Thailand and had offered vital support during medical emergencies.
Her dedication to assisting the Northeast Indian community has not gone unnoticed.
At the recent education event in Bangkok, her efforts were formally recognised by the Indian Ambassador to Thailand and officials from the Thai Ministry of Education.
In response to her reappointment, Shirley Roy reaffirmed her commitment to the community, stating, "If you're from Northeast India and in need of assistance while in Thailand, please don't hesitate to reach out.
I'm here to help".
