14 cops, firemen awarded gallantry, service medal

Imphal, August 14 2021:
Around 14 police, Correctional Service and Fire Service personnel from the state have been awarded gallantry and service medals in connection with the 75th Independence Day of India.
On Saturday, the Ministry of Home announced the names of 1380 police personnel who will be receiving the President's Police Medal for Gallantry (PPMG-2), Police Medal for Gallantry (PMG-628), President's Police Medal for Distinguished Service (PPM-88) and Police Medal for Meritorious Service (PM-662).Although there was no PPMG recipient from the state, SI Gunachandra Chanam and Head Constable Hijam Eshworchandra Singh have been selected for PMG.
Meanwhile, the PPM has been awarded to ADGP (Modernisation) & managing director (MPHC Ltd), Christopher Doungel; while the PM have been awarded Vigilance & Anti-Corruption SP Gautam Singh Sorokhaibam, CID (SB) DSP Thokchom Gojen Singh, Narcotics and Affair of Border Inspector Konthoujam Bobby, 1 MR Subedar Bhogendro Singh Akoijam, 1IRB Subedar Sanasam Raju Singh, MPTC Jemadar Konjengbam Priyojit Singh, CID (SB) Head Constable Chothe Maorum Parpa, and SP Imphal West Head Constable Sarangthem Joychandra Meetei.
Regarding PPM awarded every year on Independence Day and Republic Day to Fire Services, Civil Defense and Home Guard personnel, the Fire Service Medal for Meritorious Service was awarded to Firemen Meitangkeishangbam Romendro Singh and Lanamei Benjamin.

On the other hand, many CRPF personnel from Manipur have been included in the medal list.
The Police Medal for Gallantry (PMG) was awarded to CISF constables Mutum Bikramjit, CRPF Si Nongmaithem Premjit Singh and AC 3rd BAR to PMG Loukrakpam Ibomcha Singh.
On top of this, the Police Medal for Meritorious Service was awarded to CRPF 44Bn Second-In-Command Yaikhom Nandakishore Singh.
The Ministry of Defence has also announced the list of army personnel to be awarded gallantry medals.
Altogether, 6 Shaurya Chakra, 4 Bar to Sena Medal, 116 Sena Medal (gallantry) including 16 posthumous and 28 Mention-In-Dispatches including 3 posthumous have been announced.
Of these, the Sena Medal was awarded to Major Naorem Chingthangkhomba Singh (Kumaon Regiment, 50Bn Rashtriya Rifles) and L/Nk Nongmaithem Dhanabir Singh (21Bn Parachute Regiment-Special Forces).
Regarding Mention-In-Dispatches of Army personnel Maj Soubam Kinobabu Singh (J&K Light Infantry, 15 AR) was included for 'Operation Rhino' .
Meanwhile, on the occasion of Patriots' Day, Bishnupur District Police inspector (late) Lisham Premchand Singh was posthumously awarded with CM's Police Medal for Gallantry along with 2nd IRB rifleman Thokchom Shachi Singh and constable N Inaobi Singh, both attached to Special Commando Unit, on Friday.
Late Premchand, who was Nambol police station OC, got seriously injured when a mob attacked him during a drug raid conducted at Nambol Chingmang village in 2014.He underwent prolonged treatment but passed away in 2020 .
Rifleman Shachi and constable Inaobi have been awarded for showing courage and repulsing ambush laid by NSCN-IM on government officials going for inauguration of a police rest house at Nungba on June 9 .
