ADPO observes 5th foundation day

The 5th Foundation Day of the Angamba Disabled People's Organization (ADPO), Nongada was held today at Manipur Press Club, Majorkhul.
Chairperson Yening Animal Foundation, Khurai Lamlong Bazar, Sapna Laishram, ADPO president Pheiroijam Kripa Meetei, North East Zonal Rehabilitation Council of India (RCI) Chairperson Laishram Tokendra Ricky and noted Manipuri Matam Eeshei singer Thingbaijam Bipinchandra graced the function as chief guest, president and guests of honour respectively.
Speaking at the function, Sapna underscored the importance of maintaining sense of equality between all in society.
She said that disabled per-, sons should be supported and uplifted by all to bring equality in the society.
She also asked all the disabled persons not to feel inferior, saying that there are many things which others cannot do, but can be done by a physically challenged person.
Sapna further assured that she will extend every possible help to ADPO while lauding the organization for being able to build a strong coordination with large number of disabled persons and people.
Kripa highlighted the problems and inconveniences faced by the persons with disabilities pointing out that disabled persons, particularly from far areas spend a huge transportation charge when he/she comes for attending a function or a programme related with disabilities.
He also explained the idea behind the naming of ADPO, saying the word "Angamba" was used to give meaning to the concept that every disabled persons are also human beings and they can do many things in some way or the other.
Informing that ADPO has been selecting few disabled persons and honouring them annually, Kripa also stated that the organization has been making its best effort to help and uplift the differently abled/disabled persons since its inception.
Speaking to the gathering, Bipinchandra pointed out that only 0.04 percent of the total disabled persons in the country can be enrolled in the job sectors.
This shows that the initiatives taken up for the welfare of the people with disabilities by the Government is still negligible, although there are many provisions meant for the welfare of disabilities under certain Acts, he added.
Many disabled persons were honoured by distributing awards and certificates to them as part of the function.
