Bishnupur, March 13 2025:
Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) president K Meghachandra has condemned the threats to the MPCC vice president, explaining that his criticism of the statement made by Rajya Sabha MP King Leishemba Sanajaoba about Kabaw Valley gifted to Burma by Jawaharlal Nehru, was aimed at the BJP MP for misleading the public, and not the titular king.
The MPCC president was speaking at a meeting held at Moirang Block Congress Committee office.
The meeting was held as per the instruction of the AICC to strengthen the district committee, block committee and booth level committee.
Meghachandra expressed disappointment over the statement made by Rajya Sabha MP Leishemba Sana-jaoba about Kabaw Valley.

He supported the clarification made by MPCC vice president Harishwar Goswami, describing it as genuine, academic, and backed by records from the national archives.
However, some individuals, due to misunderstanding, threatened the MPCC vice president and challenged the freedom of speech, which is condemned in the strongest terms, said the Congress MLA.
He pointed out that the clarification was not a response to King Leishemba Sanajaoba but rather aimed at the BJP MP.
Authorities concerned have been informed about the safety and security of the MPCC vice president, he said.
On the issue of Manipur budget presented in Parliament, Meghachandra criticised it as anti-people.
He noted that the people of Manipur had hoped that the imposition of President's Rule would improve the state's law and order situation, as well as address administration and financial crisis.
However, he pointed out that no such improvements had been forthcoming.
He also criticised the budget for allocating only a small amount of Rs 100-200 crore for the 60,000 internally displaced persons, which he argued would not bring peace to the state.
The Congress party had expected a generous package from the central government to support the return of internally displaced persons and the rebuilding of their homes, but with the meagre budget, peace would remain elusive.
For the Congress, a budget that offers no compensation for the crisis-torn state is considered anti-people, elaborated the state Congress chief.
Additionally, Meghachandra charged the BJP-led central government of neglecting developmental work in the state.
The programme was attended by former MLA P Sharatchandra Singh, Bishnupur District Congress Committee president Noor Rahaman, block Congress presidents and Congress workers.
