ASHA workers stage sit-in

ASHA workers of Thoubal district staged sit-in protest at Thoubal Mela Ground on Jan 10 in support of the two-days nation wide general strike called by Central Trade Union and Employees demanding full rights ofworkers.
Speaking to media persons, general secretary, All Manipur ASHA Workers' Union, Manipur, Ak Thoibi Devi said that ASHA workers in other States of India enjoyed more access to various beneficial schemes and facilities of Govt than ASHA workers of Manipur and added that the protest demonstration was to highlight the grievances of ASHA workers who have been working with sincerity since 2006 as a facilitator of health schemes and other services of State Govt.Placards which read as "Provide full rights to ASHA workers", "Provide minimum wages of Rs 18,000 per month", "Assured pension scheme for ASHA workers", "Stop privatisation of ASHA workers scheme" and "Reserve appropriate fund for ASHA workers in the Central and State budget" were used during the sit-in protest.
