Thoubal, November 12 2024:
Aggrieved with the non-distribution of PDS rice for eight months, Tentha Apunba Lup organised a sit-in protest at Tentha Multiplex Hall located at Tentha Khongbal today.
The protestors wielded placards with messages such as "Distribute PDS rice every month", "Non-release of NFSA rice is public exploitation", "State Government should address the rice issue swiftly" among others.
Speaking by the sideline of the protest, M Sanatombi, president, Tentha Apunba Lup and T Rishikanta, vice-chairman, All Tentha Coordinating Committee said that from December 2023 till date, the people of Tentha have received NFSA rice for only 4 months.
Raising questions about the non-release of PDS rice for 8 months, they urged the State Government to tackle the issue and ensure that people receive their due share of ration for the aforementioned months.
They further added that the destruction of paddy fields by recent floods has also exacerbated the situation and increased the hardships faced by common people.
The two representatives went on to caution that the public of Tentha are prepared to launch intense agitations if their share of PDS rice for the aforementioned 8 months is not released promptly.
