Phayeng farmers urges for compensation

The Phayeng Area Loumi Lup has urged the Government to pay relief compensation for 1000 paris of paddy fields destroyed by flood in 2017.Speaking to media persons at Manipur Press Club here today, Phayeng Area Loumi Lup president N Tomba said that over 1000 paris of paddy fields were destroyed by flood when they were ready for harvest in 2017.As the devastated farmers were left with no other option, they went to the Chief Minister on a Meeyamgi Numit on December 15, 2017 along with photographs and documents about the extensive damage done to paddy fields by the sudden flood.
The Chief Minister referred the matter to the Imphal West District Agriculture Officer.
Subsequently, a spot enquiry was conducted in the first week of January 2018.Together with local farmers, the officials made a spot assessment of the paddy fields devastated by flood.
Later, a report which pointed out that the paddy fields had been destroyed by 90 to 100 per cent was submitted to the authority concerned on March 15, 2018, Tomba said.
The Government authorities assured the farmers that they would certainly get relief compensation and the farmers have been waiting for the relief compensation till date.
He then appealed to the State Government to pay relief compensation to the
aggrieved farmers at the earliest.
