Imphal, June 12 2021: Lamlai Mapari Thougal Lup has clubbed together peasant organisations of 30 villages in Lamlai and floated Apunba Loumi Lup on Saturday under the initiative of political activist Sapam Kangleipal Meitei.

Leader of Tellou Khungang Loumi Lup Laishram Raghumani has been elected as the president of the new Lup, Nongpok Sanjenbam Khunou Loumi Lup leader Laishram Surjakanta as secretary and Seijang Makha Leikai Loumi Lup leader as finance secretary.

During the formation of the new organisation, Laishram Raghumani highlighted the hardships faced by the peasants of Lamlai.

He contended that only a single harvesting is done in the farm lands of Lamlai which covers around 12,000 paris, thus wasting the farm lands for the past many decades after single cropping.

He also expressed apprehension over the increasing number of farmers who do not have their own farm lands.

Meanwhile, Sapam Kangleipal lauded Lamlai Mapari Thougal Lup for their progressive activities taken up during the short period of time and also appreciated the formation of peasant organisations in every locality in Lamlai.

Urging the people to pressurise authority concerned for availing urea for the 12,000 paris (size of farmland) of Lamlai from the agricultural office which has been set up but is yet to function till date, Kangleipal exhorted the government to show its good governance in Lamlai constituency also.

The meeting resolved to produce more foods and also to operationalize the agriculture office which is yet to function at Lamlai.
