Imphal, December 11 2015 :
On the 76th anniversary of Nupi Lal which falls on December 12, the proscribed CorCom on Friday paid tribute to those who participated in the Nupi Lal and sacrificed their lives without any fear to save the Manipur society.
The event remains a source of inspiration for today's generation, said CorCom.
A statement released by Publicity Committee, CorCom stated that many incidents in history have shown and proven that Manipur was once an independent kingdom.
The strength of Manipuris emerged soon after the nation was occupied by the British and those forefathers who always wanted to live independently torched the British Residential Bungalows at night.
All the men villagers were ordered to construct the bungalows destroyed by the fire anew bringing all the materials from Kabaw.
However, brave Manipur women came out in one and defied the British order and also forced the political agent to withdraw the order, recalled the statement.
Recounting the second historic uprising of Nupi Lal which occurred in 1939, CorCom mentioned that Manipur women launched protests against export of rice from Manipur in large scale.
The large export of rice by British in association with non-local business persons and Manipur king led to severe shortage of food grain in Manipur and people were forced to face artificial starvation during the harvesting season.
However, brave womenfolk of Manipur fought the British regime without retracting a single step and challenged the bayonets and boots of the British army personnel, said the statement.
In spite of all repressive measures unleashed by the colonial regime, the Manipur womenfolk fought against them and defeated both the colonialism and feudalism leaving the path of independence movement till today, asserted CorCom.
The statement further alleged that Government of India had forcefully annexed Manipur and destroyed its society leaving the indigenous people living since time immemorial into the merge of extinction.
Government of India is also trying to suppress the people's liberation movement and violates human rights by imposing black laws such as AFSPA 1958 .
However, number of brave women in Manipur has been fighting with torches in their hands to save the Manipur nation and leaving the path of an "Ahumsuba Nupi Lal", alleged the statement.
It will be however the responsibility of young educated women to take the third nupi lal into the path of victory, mentioned CorCom.
