Inclusion of Muslims in official Nupilal list demanded

Imphal, December 11 2012: Demanding inclusion of names of Muslim women fighters in the officials list of Nupilal participants, Vice President of Pangal (Manipuri Muslim) Political Forum (PPF), Manipur Siataram Begum has pointed out that around 30 women from Manipuri Muslim community participated in the war but none of their names have been included in the list prepared by the Government of Manipur and the 12 December Memorial Observation Committee.

She was speaking at the '73rd Nupilal Ningshing Thouram' organized under the aegis of PPF at Cambridge Higher Secondary School, Khergao, Imphal East district on Tuesday.

Producing a list of 30 names of Nupilal participants from Muslim community, Sitara Begum said that as mothers from Meetei community participated in Nupi lal, mothers from among Manipuri Muslim also took active part in the war which broke out in 1939.So, the authorities concerned should prepare a comprehensive list of Nupilal participants.

She observed that Muslims in Manipur are descendents of Meetei people; having the same blood and the state is not only for the Meeteis but also for all the communities including Muslims.

Taking strong exception to exclusion of 30 Muslim women participants in Nupilal, President of Kuki Women Union, Manipur, Rose Mangshi Haokip said that Nupilal is not only for Meetei women but for all the women in Manipur.

Chief Guest of the function, Laishom Ibomcha Singh, MLA (Keishamthong AC) assured every possible assistance from his side towards inclusion of Muslim women in the official list of Nupilal participants and to reserve one seat for Muslim community in Kangla Fort Board.

Presided over by A R Khan, (IAS Retd.) Chief Advisor, PPF the function was attended by other dignitaries like Azizul Haque Khan, Working President, PPF; Nazira Begum, Zilla Parisad, Kshetrigao; Khalida Begum, Pradhan, Kshetrigao and Janab A R Shah, President, PPF. M I Khan, Spokesperson of PPF delivered the key note address of the function.
