Imphal, June 11 2024:
Rongmei Naga organisations have condemned the attack on the convoy of Manipur police team by Kuki militants on Monday.
In a release, Rongmei Naga Council Manipur (RNCM) recalled its clarion call multiple times to all concerned that such act of war/provocative activities between communities within the ancestral land of Rongmeis in particular and the Nagas as a whole, shall not be, under any circumstances, tolerated.
Reports of armed cadres repeatedly moving along the NH 37, despite the honourable agreement made, to desist from such activities within the land of the peace loving Rongmei community tantamount to breach of peace amongst communities, having nothing to do with the current communal issues in Manipur, it said, while appealing to all concerned to refrain from any act of war/arson/vandalism within the land.
The attack and counter attack in Jiri areas, jeopardising the lives and properties of Rongmei Nagas should stop with immediate effect.
The council also asserted that the peaceful coexistence amongst communities, traditionally maintained so far, should be given due respect to avoid misunder standing.
It has also become pertinent to mention that the security agencies working hand in gloves with the illegitimate force and giving free hand to such group operating against any communities might create chaos within communities.
There are many Nagas in service, who will be deployed in the frontline and such duty might possibly be considered proxy, and might become a target, in a war that has nothing to do with the Nagas, if the system fails to honour the sanctity of the force, legitimately established to protect the integrity of the state.
The credibility expected and the trust on the system will always remain questionable, the council maintained, while urging authority to look into the matter and do the needful as deemed appropriate in the interest of all communities in the state.
Meanwhile, Rongmei Naga Students' Organisation Manipur (RNSOM), in a release, denounced the attack by Kuki militants on the state police and a team of chief minister SPG.
While recalling that Kuki Inpi, South West Sadar Hills, Kuki Students' Organisation South West Sadar Hills and Kuki Women Union Moltam region had called a 24-hour total shut down in Kuki dominate areas along NH 37 (Imphal-Jiribam road) from Monday midnight, the release made it clear that there is no total shut down along NH-37 in all Rongmei Naga territory starting from Jiribam to Imphal.
It also reminded everyone that as the state police consist of different communities, an attack on peace loving communities in the state force could fan another wave of crisis and considered it as an open invitation to join the conflict.
