Maheshwar accuses past, present Govt for crisis

Hailing the activities and contribution of Meira Paibis for wellbeing of the society, RPI (A) national general secretary Maheshwar Thounaojam has called upon the people of the state to introspect flaw in governance and take measures to rectify the same.
He made the remark at a public meeting on the current crisis and the way forward for solution and a strong and united Manipur held at Pourabi in Imphal East district on Sunday, participated by locals of Pourabi, Uyumpok and Keibi villages.
Addressing the gathering, Maheshwar said that not only the mothers but also the youth are coming forward to protect the state's integrity and territory in the current crisis.
However, only defending the foothills against armed attacks and raising voices for upholding the integrity of Manipur cannot resolve the crisis.
There is a strong need to amend several legislations and acts in order to resolve the crisis and flush out the Chin-Kuki narco-terrorists.
To do so, simply relying on the elected representatives would not suffice as the people need to understand the faults in governance and administration, and to take remedial measures, he said.
Maheshwar said that his campaign of holding public meetings in different parts of the state and to make aware the rest of the country is a step towards aiding the public understand the underlying issues.
Thoubal Apunba Lup (TAL) also organised a discussion programme at Thoubal Melaground community hall to discuss plight of the people affected by the ethnic strife that has been raging for the last nine months.
As resource person of discussion programme socio-political activist Maheshwar Thounaojam stated that the on-going crisis in the state is due to administrative inefficiency of the present as well as past governments.
In order to end the conflict, a political solution is needed, he added.
While expressing regret over failure of the government as well as politicians to resolve the conflict, he also stressed the need to elect responsible leaders during the times of election.
