IBSD joins 9th Asian NIR symposium

Institute of Bioresources and Sustainable Development (IBSD) participated in the 9th Asian NIR symposium organised by Jadavpur University, Kolkata and Tea Research Association (TRA), Tocklai, Assam from December 8 to 10 at Biswa Bangla Convention Centre, Kolkata on the theme "NIR Sight - An Illuminating Explorer".
A release issued by IBSD Department of Biotechnology, informed that the symposium was organised in collaboration with Asian NIR Consortium (ANC), an international organisation committed to promoting education, research and applications related to near-infrared spectroscopy among Asian countries.
Eminent scientists including Prof Satoru Tsuchikawa of Nagoya University, Japan; Prof Hoeli Chung of Hanyang University, Korea; Prof Federico Marini of University of Rome, Italy; Dr Akifumi Ikehata of NARO, Japan; Dr Daeseo Park and Prof Byoung-Kwan Cho of Chungnam National University, Korea; and Prof Eizo Taira of University of Ryukyus, Japan, joined the event, the release said, while informind that IBSD is working in collaboration with Jadavpur University for the quality evaluation of bioresources through NIR spectroscopy.
During the inaugural session, director Prof Pulok Kumar Mukherjee mentioned that IBSD is already working in collaboration with Jadavpur University on the DBT funded project for development of sensing systems for rapid and in situ quality assessment of Black rice, Ginger, Elsholtzia griffithii and Cinnamomum zeylanicum of NER using spectroscopic (NIR and Raman) technologies.
