AMUCO distributes winter crop seeds

All Manipur United Clubs' Organisation (AMUCO) has started distribution of winter crop seeds to farmers with the main objective of keeping the barren paddy fields green even after harvesting paddy.
As the first phase, distribution of winter crop seeds to farmers began on Friday in Ningthoukhong and Kwasiphai areas of Bishnupur district, a statement of AMUCO issued by its publicity secretary Laishram Krishnachandra conveyed.
According to the AMUCO, the distribution in Ningthouk-hong area was done in coordination with its allied organisation UCOBID and seeds include mustard, red lentil (Mushori) and pea while onion, cabbage and ladies finger seeds were distributed to farmers of Kwasiphai.
Plantation of winter crops in barren paddy fields after harvesting paddy is one way to ensure sufficient food production and ending food dependency and AMUCO distributed the seeds with this thought as part of its continuing 'Chinjakta Meepal Tangdaba' in coordination with state horticulture department.
Every possible effort will be made to distribute winter crop seeds to farmers across the state, the statement said and called upon farmers and land owners to take interest in plantation of winter crops after harvesting paddy.
It also appealed to horticulture department to take keen initiative in winter crop plantation after paddy harvest.
The AMUCO statement further said that distribution of winter crop seeds in Thoubal district too had started in coordination with ATDUCO and in Wangoo area of Bishnupur district in coordination with WANSUCO.
