Senapati, October 09 2024:
All Naga Students' Association, Manipur (ANSAM) has reaffirmed its support for the Indo-Naga political peace talks, and urged all Nagas to pray for the par leys taking place in the national capital.
In a release issued by vice-president Nula Wilpengam, ANSAM stated that the Nagas in Nagalim have long desired a logical conclusion to the protracted Naga political crisis for self-determination of their sovereign rights.
In this 78th year of journey of the Naga national struggle after its official declaration of Naga Independence from British colonial rule, the Indo-Naga political peace talk was initiated in 2002, followed by signing of the Framework Agreement on August 3, 2015 between the National Socialist Council of Nagalim and the Government of India, underscoring recognition of unique history and situation of the Nagas, and signifying acceptance of shared sovereignty between two separate entities.
Even after nine years of signing the framework agreement and 22 years of Indo-Naga political peace talks at the highest level, including the Prime Minister as two separate entities, the Government of India backtracking on the issue of a separate Naga flag and constitution has rendered the talks inconclusive but not deadlocked, resulting in an impasse for several years, the Naga students' body said.
While reiterating its firm support for the Indo-Naga political peace talks for a logical conclusion with an honourable and acceptable solution, ANSAM appreciated the Government of India for resuming the political talks after a years-long pause to discuss the Nagas' rights.
It then expressed hope that the outcome of the talk will be positive because the Government of India has already acknowledged the Nagas' political desires and rights.
ANSAM then called on all its units, Naga students, youths, Churches, and the entire Naga populace to pray for God's blessings for the collective leaders led by VS Atem and deputy Ato Kilonser of NSCN/GPRN for the upcoming Indo-Naga political peace talk with the Government of India and cultivate a common voice for an inclusive solution with flag, constitution and integration as inalienable rights for the Nagas.
