NEFIS condemns Govt's attempt of "dividing MU community to shield VC'

The activists of North-East Forum for International Solidarity (NEFIS) Chandigarh Unit along with the students of North-East, held a protest demonstration at Punjab University, Chandigarh demanding the removal of W of Manipur University (MU) AP Panday.
The protest was organized in solidarity with the agitating students, teachers and staff who are demanding constitution of a high level independent inquiry commission under The Commission of Inquiry Act 1952 to investigate the charges against the VC.
The students also condemned the alleged Government's role in allying with the Vice-Chancellor and sending him on leave during an inquiry by the fact finding committee which was instituted earlier.
It may be mentioned that the MU community have been opposing the fact finding committee on ground that the fact finding committee was not constituted under The Commission of Inquiry Act 1952.Moreover, the protest today also condemned the Government's alleged ploy to divide the MU community.
It may be noted that the University community- MUSU, MUTA and others have been agitating for more than 2 months demanding the removal of AP Panday from the office alleging gross misconduct of funds and irregularities.
The MU faculty have alleged that the VC was out of the State for more than 20 days a month without proper explanation.
The MU community had alleged that he had violated the MU Act, 2005 by not holding Court meetings, Executive Council and Finance Council meetings.
NEFIS during the protest, undertook a mass signature campaign at Chandigarh University to show solidarity with the cause of the MU community.
The unit members and the students resolved to initiate a mass movement at Punjab University, Chandigarh against "anti-people and anti-student policies" of the BJP Government in the coming days.
