Chandel, October 08 2015:
Committee on Protection of Tribal Rights (CoPoTR) Chandel district's surprise visit to ADC Chandel head office on October 5 revealed only a few staff members were attending the head office and the rest including the Chief Executive Officer were operating from Imphal office.
Informing this in a statement, CoPoTR Chairman Wng Victor Kohring said that making the ADC Chandel function from Chingmeirong during the last five years was against ADC rules and added that the repetition would affect district resources, economy and developmental projects of the Centre and the State.
The CoPoTR in this connection appealed to ADC staff as well as the elected MDC to attend the head office located at Monsang Pantha or face stringent action from the committee.
Meanwhile, the CoPoTR has extended moral support to BJP's protest against the appointment of a junior IAS officer to the post of Chief Secretary by neglecting a senior tribal IAS officer.
CoPoTR alleged that the State Government has yet again added "odds" to the issue of discrimination against tribal people of the State.
Condemning the State Government for its "step-motherly" treatment against the tribal communities, CoPoTR Chairman asked how the tribals could tolerate such an attitude of the Government.
