2 held in SIM card racket; liquor seized

Imphal, May 08 2025:
Police on Tuesday arrested two individuals from Thoubal district for allegedly selling duplicate SIM cards without adhering to mandatory Know Your Customer (KYC) norms, fully aware that the SIM cards would likely be used for illegal activities.
According to a police control room statement, accused Laishram Rajesh Singh alias Tomba (19) of Khangabok Part-Ill Khunou Leikai, was rounded up from his residence, and Md Nawaz Khan alias Wash Khan (27) of Sangaiyumpham Cherapur Mayai Leikai Part-II, from in front of a shop in the same locality.

Police also seized four mobile handsets, two Aadhaar cards, and a side bag containing a notebook, 41 new SIM cards, and a biometric fingerprint scanner from their possession.
In a separate operation on Wednesday, a joint team of police and CRPF confiscated 2,500 litres of DIC liquor at a check point in Chiru Lamkhai near Sangaithel outpost in Imphal West district.
The liquor consignment was recovered from the possession of two individuals, identified as Dithaipou Golmei (32), and Poujuanlung Kamei (39), who were transporting the contraband in their respective four-wheeler vehicles.
Police have initiated further legal formalities in connection with the case.
