Imphal, January 08 2020:
Unidentified miscreants reportedly hurled a hand grenade inside the Accountant General Office complex, which is located in one of the highest security zones of the State (some 50 meters away from the Chief Minister's Bungalow) at around 2.45 pm today.
Fortunately, the bomb failed to explode thus preventing any casualty.
According to the 109 battalion CRPF jawans who are deployed as security at the complex, the bomb was allegedly hurled by some unknown youths who came on a two wheeler bike from the CM Bungalow side towards Moirangkhom.
The grenade fell near the northern entrance gate, next to the sentry post but it failed to explode.
The people inside the office complex were evacuated by police and the area was cordoned off.
SP Imphal West, K Meghachandra, also arrived at the spot to look after the situation and the bomb lying inside the office complex was later safely picked up by a State bomb expert team.
A case has been registered at Imphal PS regarding the incident.
It may be mentioned that the AG office is located next to the Manipur Police Head Quarters.
