Imphal, December 07 2024:
Rongmei Naga People's Organisation (RNPO) has informed that the court of Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM) Tamenglong has been unable to function properly due to the prevailing conflict.
As such, he appealed to the authority concerned to resume the court 15-days each at Tamenglong and Imphal until normalcy is restored in the state.
In a press meet held at the Thangjing Hall of Manipur Press Club on Saturday, RNPO spokesperson Ashinpou Gangmei said that the CJM court has not been functioning properly for the past 10 months.
Thus, all the litigation cases in this court are either suspended or pending.
The most troubling thing is that some of the litigations need to be disposed within a stipulated time, and hence, this is a matter of great inconvenience those from poor backgrounds.
He continued that most of the judges serving at CJM Tamenglong and around 95 per cent of the advocates are from the Meetei community.
The staffs are also mainly Meeteis.
Since the Meeteis currently are facing difficulty in accessing the hills, he appealed the .authority concerned to hold the court 15-days each at Tamenglong and Imphal.
The litigations concerning Kukis can be held in Tamenglong while those with Meetei counsels can be held in Imphal, he added.
Ashinpou informed that a written letter in this regard had been submitted by RNPO president Sangamlung Kamei and general secretary Thuingamlung Phaomei to the Chief Justice of the High Court of Manipur on March 11 this year.
However, no reply has been received till date.
On the other hand, the general secretary had filed an RTI query to the public information officer of High Court of Manipur, seeking information on the functions of CJM Court, Session Court, Civil Judges Senior and Civil Judge Junior Division.
